People
Perhaps the best thing about the THM lifestyle is that it's not done in isolation, but in a community that is like family. We are like sisters!

Here are some of the wonderful people I met.
Three of Serene's daughters.

A cousin and two of Serene's daughters
Vange and Pearl's daughterCandace
This trip was an amazing experience, and it left me wanting to return again and again!  I'm the type of person that only needs to visit a new place one time, but I make an exception when it comes to the Trim Healthy Mama Cafe. I felt like I was a queen! The workers are so sweet, and helpful and made me feel so special!
My dream is to see all the THM Cafés opened around the country!  The Blue Butterfly Cafe in Fort Worth, Texas, is next up on my list!

If you have the opportunity to visit, do yourself a favor and DO IT!

I also wrote a great blog about things to do in Tennessee.
It's definitely worth the read!

Game Changing Deodorant

Game Changing Deodorant
One of my biggest passions in life is to live a healthy lifestyle. But that goes much further than eating a healthy diet. We need to look at everything that goes into our bodies AND ONTO our bodies.

Finding skincare products that aren't propped full of toxic chemicals has been a game-changer for me. These chemicals are endocrine disrupters and can mess up your hormones. Using a clean line of products has not only improved my skin but boosted my overall health as well.

One of the first places to start is by switching out your deodorant.

I have put in the stinky work for you and made my way through a healthy list of deodorants, and I have found a few to share that actually work well!
Let's introduce them!

Trim Healthy Deodorant

Trim Healthy Deodorant is the “EST” of deodorants. Allow us to clarify. Let’s start with it being the purEST. It contains zero toxic chemicals and artificial fragrances. It is the safEST because it is aluminum free. Sadly, most deodorants contain aluminum, which when absorbed through the sensitive lymph area right next to your breast, may be harmful to your entire endocrine system. It is the wisEST because it harnesses the natural power of extremely potent plant bioactives and earth minerals to neutralize odor-causing bacteria. It’s also the gentlEST because it contains no irritants like baking soda.

Shop for the Trim Healthy Deodorant here:

I talk more about this deodorant in this short video here:

Another deodorant that I really, really like is a spray and is called High Five.
Shop for LimeLife's deodorants here:

What if you have tried the safe and natural brands and they still don't work for you?  Have you heard of an armpit detox?

If you would like to learn more about chemicals in deodorants, how to find a deodorant, and how to detox your armpits, I have an armpit health course that teaches you everything you need to know.

What do you think?
Are you ready to make the switch?

I'd love to hear from you!

Blessings,

As Cool as a Carrot!

As Cool as a Carrot!
Hello, Lovely!

It's time to get your “folate on” with carrots!

Organic carrots are sweet, crunchy, and delicious. They taste much better than non-organic ones.
I enjoy eating them whole, as the baby non-organic carrots are not naturally occurring and have chemicals along with them to keep them fresh.

When your peter rabbit carrots are washed, but not peeled, they help repair the DNA of damaged cells.

There are so many nutrients in the skin and just under the skin. That’s why it’s best to wash and eat your carrots, but not peel them.

Did you know that raw, whole, unpeeled carrots help balance hormones and rid the body of *excess* estrogen?

Raw, organic carrots with the peel left on, have hormone-balancing properties.
Whole carrots have compounds in the skin that help balance hormones, so organic carrots are highly recommended! You can get the hormonal balancing benefits without the side effects of pesticides and chemicals that conventional carrots are typically grown with.

Did you know that baby carrots are not naturally occurring? Some baby carrots are washed in chlorine to clean bacteria off of them. This is not good for your body and can have negative side effects.

Take a look at all these benefits:

What if I don’t have access to organic foods?
We CAN have non-organic. It is a personal choice based on what we are comfortable consuming. Pearl and Serene, the founders of Trim Healthy Mama, encourage us to buy the best quality we can afford. If you can't get organic, it's ok! It's better than going off-plan or eating junk food.
But bear in mind that they do not have the same healing benefits as organic carrots do.

But carrots are boring!

Don't worry, I have some great recipes for you to try.

Charity's Carrots:
I love to eat carrots raw, sprinkled with sea salt!

Here is a super healthy recipe that is quick and easy for cucumber, but you can do the same with carrots.

Have you tried HAIRY carrots?

The fiber-y hairs found on hairy carrots help sweep away dirty estrogen, so it doesn't get reabsorbed and lead to hormonal imbalance.

Mamas, don't peel or cook carrots and be sure to buy organic to get all the hormone benefits out of this hormone-balancing veggie.

Pro Tip:
If you're not a carrot lover,  just toss it into the blender and hide it in a protein shake.
If you're a chip lover or a crunchy lover, eat organic carrots with sea salt for a snack.

Carrots are a great food to incorporate into your THM eating plan.

 Bonus Tip:
Raw organic carrots can fit into any THM fuel setting except Deep S.

Here are some examples of the meals I add carrots to:

Are you ready to incorporate carrots into your diet? I hope this blog will encourage you to do so!

Remember if you have any questions, you are more than welcome to contact me!

Charity

Oh my Okra!

Oh my Okra!
Before starting on my Trim Healthy Mama journey, I would never even have DREAMED of eating Okra, let alone even know it existed!

It's such a strange, exotic-looking vegetable, and it just LOOKS like it will taste bad!
Okay, to be honest, this one DOES look cute, but the real-life version had me questioning whether or not I was THAT committed to having a healthy lifestyle.

But boy was I wrong!

What IS Okra exactly?

Okra is a flowering plant with edible seed pods and it comes from warm climates like Africa and Asia.
Okra can sometimes be referred to as "lady fingers".

Okra is super rich in nutrients, especially Vitamin C and K1!
Okra is low in calories and carbs, but it does contain protein and fiber, which makes it different from most fruits and veggies. This makes it SUPER slimming!

Okra contains antioxidants, which defend the body against free radicals. It also helps protect the brain from inflammation.

There have been studies to show that Okra may lower the risk of heart disease and may have anti-cancer properties as well.

Okra also contains Vitamin B9, which is great for pregnant mamas!

Okra also has amazing benefits for your skin!

Take a look at all the wonderful things Okra can do for your skin:

With all these benefits, I think I want to eat Okra every day, that is why in the THM world, you'll see ladies doing Okra challenges.  It really is so beneficial for healing and for slimming your waistline!

But how do you even cook this strange-looking veggie? How do I use it?

Here are some great ideas on how to hide Okra into your daily eating plan:

Why not try some of these great recipes:

Peanutty, Chocolaty, Banana-y Secret Shake - Biggie Shake (E)
This shake has a great taste and you can't detect the okra in it.
The key to putting Okra in shakes is using a great mixer like the Vitamixer and blending it a lot!
You can find it on page 482 of Trim Healthy Table.

Queso Chicken Bake (E)
This is my favorite casserole using okra where you can't detect it!
It's a firm favorite in my home.
You can find it on page 123 of Trim Healthy Table

You can see how I make it here:

Fuel Pull Air Fried Okra
Season with Smoked Paprika, Nutritional Yeast, and Onion Powder.
I air fry mine at 350 degrees for 15 min, stirring halfway.
Bump the temp up to 375 - 400 degrees for a few more minutes to get it a little crispy.

Chocolate Moisties Dessert
What? a vegetable in a dessert? You read that right!
You will find this recipe on page 321 of Trim Healthy Table.

Okra is such a versatile vegetable!

Have you tried it yet?
Do you have a great recipe to share?

I'd love to hear it!

If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out and contact me.
I am here to help you succeed on your THM journey.

Are you feeling brave enough to try it? If you need some more information about this power-house veggie (and others too!) why not take my Vegetable Course

Healthy Salad Dressings

Healthy Salad Dressings

Salads can be the healthiest foods in the world, but they also can be destroyed by what you put on them for dressing, so let's talk about how to pick a healthy salad dressing.

First, watch out for the GMO hydrogenated soybean oil, corn syrup, sugar, preservatives, and other things you can't pronounce!

Store-bought dressings:
Any store-bought dressing with 2-gram net carbs or less, can be used on the Trim Healthy plan for the not-so-puristy person.
You can use many of the store-bought dressings in a THM S meal. You just want to make sure they are 2g carbs or less per serving regardless of the ingredients.

However, avoid sugary salad dressings that are above the allotted 2g of carbs, as they are likely not going to help meet our weight loss goals and can keep us in a sugar-craving cycle.
You can also water down regular dressing to keep the flavor, but lower the calories.
In the ingredients list above, you will see that the serving size is 2 Tbsp or 30 grams. You will also notice that the total net carbs are only 2 grams! This is exactly what you're looking for when looking at labels in stores.

Here are some in-store options for you to choose from:

Drive-Thru Sue Store-Bought Dressings
The brands listed below have off-plan THM ingredients, but as long as there are 2 grams or less per serving size for one meal, they can be eaten.  Not all flavors of the dressings below have 2 grams or less, so you need to read the label to make sure!

Ken's
Bolthouse

Walden Farms
Newman's Brand
Sir Kensington Ranch

On-Plan Healthy Store-Bought Dressings:
Primal Kitchen brand dressings are healthier options.

These are all sugar-free and Deep-S approved with avocado oil bases.

But if you're weary of store-bought products and prefer to make your own, I have some amazing dressing recipes for you to try.
Take a look at all these yummy options:

Homemade and easy Dressings that are super healthy:

1. Olive oil, lemon juice and seasonings.

2:  MCT oil and lemon juice.
3 T Lemon juice
MCT oil
salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes

3:  Olive Oil and ACV
1 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
1/2 tbsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 tbsp water
1/8 tsp each:
 garlic powder
onion powder
mineral salt
black pepper
oregano or Italian seasoning

4. Sugar-Free salsa with 0% Greek yogurt
Just mix equal parts yogurt and salsa and you're ready to go.
This one is super quick and easy to make.

5. Red wine vinegar and freshly squeezed lemon
I love the tartness! It only takes 30 seconds to make.

6:  Olive Oil and Balsamic Vinegar
salt and pepper
sugar-free seasonings
red pepper flakes
and your favorite on-plan sweetener

These are all super yummy options and will definitely make your salad DELICIOUS! I love nutritional yeast on my veggies and salads.
 Have you ever used it?
Take a look at the THM video about the benefits and uses of Nutritional Yeast:

What dressing should I order when eating salads out?
Choose a salad dressing that is not sweet, like Honey Mustard and French are.
Oil and vinegar, Ranch, Italian, or Caesar are usually the safest options.  You can be very liberal with oil and vinegar, but don't go crazy with Ranch or blue cheese.    Also, don't eat the croutons!

Now let's make our own superfood-packed Trim Healthy Mama dressings!

I choose to make a Trim Healthy Mama Salad Dressing each week. They are easy to make, keep great in the fridge, are loaded with superfoods, beautifying collagen for protein, stabilize your blood sugar, and help you slim down!  There are so many great ones to choose from, so salads are never boring! There are endless options!

THM homemade favorites are all on the THM membership website and books:
